1. Machine learning algorithms in predicting soil moisture content in intercropping systems under reduced tillage in a clay soil in semi-arid Zimbabwe

Integration of legumes into maize-based cropping systems is advocated as a means to increase on-farm productivity in smallholder farming systems. However, in semi-arid areas of southern Zimbabwe soil water availability remains one of the major challenges to smallholder crop production. Although bio-physical models have been used in simulating soil water dynamics, results have been varied and incorporating machine learning (ML) algorithms can complement deterministic modelling tools in predicting... 2. Fine-tuning Specialty Fertilization Strategies to Local Wheat Production Through On-farm Experimentation in Nigeria

Wheat specialty fertilizer validation trial was conducted in 8 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kano State, Nigeria on farmers field. The specialty fertilizer validation project is implemented to improve the productivity and profitability of small-scale wheat smallholder farmers. Four treatments - absolute control (AC), local control (LC), OCP1 and OCP2 were replicated four times in a RCBD on a plot of 25m2. The AC was based on the indigenous nutrient supply from the soil (no application... V. Aduramigba-modupe, J.M. Jibrin, . Olabanji, B. Lawan, D. Madukwe

3. A Synopsis of Water and Nutrient Requirements of Hass Avocado for Uganda and Sub-saharan Africa Practitioners

Hass avocado production is increasing in Uganda and sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to tap into the lucrative market especially in Western Europe, China, Japan, and Russia. However, there is limited information about its water and nutrient requirements in end-user-friendly formats especially in Uganda and SSA. We consolidated the scanty information about water and nutrient requirements of Hass avocado and made necessary recalculations and unit conversions to aid meaningful uptake of the information by... 4. Driving Up Large Scale Irrigated Wheat Yields Through Variable Rate P & K Fertilizer Recommendations in Zambia

Soil types and how these change across a field/farm are the main drivers of yield. Through the surveying of the fields and their subsequent subdivision (virtual) into homogenous zones, Cropnuts has been able to carry out yearly soil sampling within each zone and generate soil correction plans to target the needs of each individual zone rather than applying blanket recommendations. This has led to improved fertilizer efficiency and has had a massive impact on yields of our clients. ... J. Parigiani

5. An Innovation System for Improving Crop Potato Management

Smart systems in agriculture has become imperative to overcome future challenges such as population growth and the consequent increase in food demand and the food gap. At the end of 2019, challenges increased, and production almost stopped all over the world due to the Corona pandemic, which posed a great threat to the world's governments to face these challenges for the continuation of life. Hence, smart agriculture has become ideal solutions in the agricultural sector for the continuation... E. Mohamed
